Most Runs in PSL History: The Batting Greats Who Lead the Chart

The Pakistan Super League has developed into one of the most competitive T20 tournaments in the world. Since its launch in 2016, the competition has produced explosive openers, reliable middle-order anchors, inventive finishers and several unforgettable individual performances.

The all-time PSL run-scoring list reflects consistency as much as talent. Players who have appeared across many seasons naturally have an advantage, but reaching the top also requires the ability to perform under pressure, adapt to different venues and maintain a high strike rate.

This record snapshot covers performances through the 2024 PSL season. Totals can change during every campaign, especially because leading batters often add several hundred runs in a single tournament. Figures are therefore rounded where necessary to keep the historical comparison clear.

How The PSL Run Record Is Measured

Career runs are calculated from a batter’s total in PSL league and playoff matches. A player’s average, strike rate, centuries and half-centuries provide useful context, but the leading-run list is based primarily on aggregate runs.

The ranking also rewards longevity. A batter who plays eight or nine seasons has more opportunities than someone who appears in only a few editions. However, a high position still indicates sustained value because PSL squads regularly change and overseas players must adjust quickly to new conditions.

Some statistics may differ slightly between official tournament records and live cricket databases. This can happen because of updates, abandoned matches, score corrections or differences in how playoff fixtures are classified.

Babar Azam Sets The Standard

Babar Azam stands at the top of the PSL batting records with approximately 3,500 runs through the 2024 season. His achievements include a long sequence of major scores, dependable performances in the powerplay and outstanding consistency for Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi.

His batting style is built around timing, placement and control rather than constant improvisation. Babar has regularly converted starts into substantial scores, making him one of the most dependable run-makers in Pakistan domestic and franchise cricket.

The former Karachi Kings captain has also produced some of the tournament’s most memorable innings. His ability to pace a chase, manipulate the field and attack spin makes him a central figure in any discussion about Pakistan Super League batting.

Rizwan And Fakhar Keep The Pressure On

Mohammad Rizwan follows closely with about 3,000 PSL runs. His rise has been especially impressive because he became a dominant force after initially playing a smaller role in the competition. As captain and opening batter for Multan Sultans, Rizwan combined technical discipline with tireless running between the wickets.

Rizwan’s record is strengthened by his consistency. He frequently gives his team a solid platform, bats deep into an innings and remains effective during difficult chases. His wicketkeeping responsibilities also make his overall contribution particularly valuable.

Fakhar Zaman is another leading name, with roughly 2,900 runs by the end of 2024. The Lahore Qalandars opener is one of the most destructive left-handed batters in the league. His strength against pace, powerful stroke play and willingness to attack from the first over have made him a constant threat.

Rank Batsman Approximate PSL Runs Main Teams
1 Babar Azam 3,500 Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi
2 Mohammad Rizwan 3,000 Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans
3 Fakhar Zaman 2,900 Lahore Qalandars
4 Shoaib Malik 2,600 Multiple franchises
5 Mohammad Hafeez 2,500 Multiple franchises
6 Rilee Rossouw 2,100 Multiple franchises
7 Kamran Akmal 1,970 Peshawar Zalmi
8 Sarfaraz Ahmed 1,700 Quetta Gladiators
9 Shadab Khan 1,600 Islamabad United
10 Colin Ingram 1,500 Karachi Kings, Islamabad United

Experienced Campaigners Still Feature

Shoaib Malik occupies a prominent place among the PSL’s leading run-scorers, with around 2,600 runs. His record is a product of extraordinary longevity, tactical intelligence and the ability to contribute in several batting positions.

Malik has played for several franchises and remained useful well beyond the early stages of his career. He can control an innings when wickets fall quickly, accelerate against spin and provide a calm presence in pressure situations.

Mohammad Hafeez is also among the tournament’s highest scorers, with approximately 2,500 runs. The experienced all-rounder combined elegant stroke play with clever use of match-ups. His off-spin and leadership added further value, especially during the middle overs.

Rilee Rossouw completes the next tier with more than 2,000 runs. The South African left-hander has been one of the PSL’s most dangerous overseas batters, capable of turning a match in a short period. His attacking range against both pace and spin has made him a popular choice for franchise teams.

The Veterans Who Built The Competition

Kamran Akmal’s near-2,000 runs for Peshawar Zalmi underline his influence during the early PSL seasons. As an aggressive wicketkeeper-opener, he frequently gave his side rapid starts and played several decisive innings during the knockout stages.

Sarfaraz Ahmed follows among the leading Pakistani run-scorers. His contribution to Quetta Gladiators goes beyond his batting figures because he also led the team through several difficult campaigns and helped establish the franchise’s identity.

Shadab Khan has moved into the top group through a combination of batting improvement and regular appearances for Islamabad United. Although best known as a leg-spinner and captain, his late-innings hitting has become an important part of his T20 game.

Colin Ingram’s place in the top ten demonstrates the impact of overseas players on PSL history. His clean ball-striking and experience in international T20 cricket made him an effective middle-order batter, particularly when a team needed quick runs after the powerplay.

What The Numbers Reveal About PSL Batting

The list is dominated by top-order batters. Openers generally face more deliveries than middle-order players, giving them a stronger opportunity to accumulate career runs. Babar, Rizwan and Fakhar have benefited from regular opening roles, while Malik and Hafeez gained value through the number of seasons they completed.

Team role also matters. A player who bats at No. 4 or No. 5 may have a higher strike rate but fewer balls faced. This is why total runs should be read alongside strike rate, boundary percentage, average and match-winning innings.

The leading scorers also represent different batting styles. Babar relies on timing and placement, Rizwan on running and composure, Fakhar on power, Malik on adaptability and Rossouw on aggressive range. There is no single formula for becoming a PSL run leader.

Records Worth Following In Future Seasons

The run-scoring race remains open because several active batters are close enough to move up the list quickly. A productive season can change the order, particularly for players separated by fewer than 300 runs.

When comparing future PSL batting records, keep these points in mind:

  • Check the season cutoff before comparing career totals.
  • Consider strike rate and batting average alongside aggregate runs.
  • Separate league-stage figures from complete tournament statistics.
  • Look at playoff performances, where pressure and quality of opposition are usually higher.
  • Track active players because the top ten can change after one strong campaign.

The PSL’s batting history is still being written. Babar Azam’s lead gives him a strong platform, but Rizwan, Fakhar and the next generation of Pakistani and overseas stars have enough time to challenge the record.
